The charm of vintage products and why people collect them
Sometimes people get so much caught up in the future that they forget about present and past, and do mistakes they should have learned not to do through their experience. And sometimes people get caught in present, they do not see anything that is coming or that happened before, so they become unprepared for the things they will soon experience in the future. And some, beautiful souls, are still living in the past. They don't realize the beauty of present and don't want to take a look in the future. But they have certainly the most fun of all these people.
I think that a healthy combination of all three types of people is the best. One should be able to live in the present, remember the past and use the experience he or she has gained and be able to prepare for the future, and to look forward to be a part of it.
The vintage world
But one thing I love to be caught up at is a vintage store. The things you can find there are so full of life and the long lost stories of their past owners are still somewhere there, around or in them. If they could just talk... Did their owners love them? How have they bought them? What have they heard and how much were they in use? Maybe they have seen more than most people in the world. Old coins must have gone through things we can't even imagine. From people's pockets, streets and old places full of life. Many people use to collect them, as well as old vintage dolls, toys, stamps and everything small and collectable. People even make a career out of their passion.
I especially love vintage radios. They have usually been taken good care of and used a lot. But back then radios were made to last decades and there were not that much features. Just a few buttons, usually only two, one to control the volume and the other to change the radio station. They had an antenna and two round speakers on their left and right side. They are the ones that could talk the most about their past, because they broadcasted news, weather reports, urgent pieces of news and music. Live broadcasts have also been able only through radios, because there were no TVs. People were used to listen to operas, theater pieces and concerts through radio - only sound and no motion picture. I bet it was amazing.
Today with all this internet and the online world we have possibilities people back then could only dream of. From online movie streaming, to Live Sex Chat, everything is possible on the internet, and yet we are not happy, and don't know how to use this potential. But our present is the future of our past, so it will maybe hit us one day and we will realize that all this "connecting people" and "bringing people together" has never brought us more away from each other.
But until then take your favorite vintage thing and enjoy using or looking at it. One day you will maybe guess right what its past is, but you won't know, and that is the beauty of it.
